All-American TV Favorites - Top Rated Television Programs Today and Yesterday
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sam_Robertson]Sam Robertson
Currently popular TV shows indicate that a large percentage of Americans (at least, most TV-viewing Americans) are most entertained by drama.
A recent list of 2009's top 10 shows, as polled for the National Nielsen ratings, include five crime-drama programs, one medical drama, one night-time soap opera, two NFL football programs (always a great source of drama and excitement) and, in a category all its own, a dance contest. On second thought, the dance show is probably quite dramatic in its own way, too.
Celebrity dance-offs and football telecasts are all competitive, indicating that competition is almost as relevant as drama to the majority of viewers. Soap opera scripts do a good job of mixing up both these attractive elements as well, proving that the most popular topic matters show a considerable degree of consistency.
Statistically, real-life drama and cold, hard facts have appealed to loyal viewers. Five top-rated programs that have run for over fifty years include NBC's 'Meet The Press' which first aired in 1947, the 'CBS Evening News' which is now in its 61st season, 'Today', which premiered in 1952, 'ABC World News', currently in its 56th year, and 'Face the Nation,' a Sunday-morning fan favorite since 1954.
For those who prefer their drama in a less factual realm, there are three soap operas that have been going strong for forty years or longer. ABC's 'One Life To Live' came to life in 1968. 'Days Of Our Lives' has kept viewers tuning in to NBC since 1965, and the ever-popular 'General Hospital' has been around since 1963.
'Gunsmoke' still holds the record as the longest-running primetime drama, with a 20-year run (1955 through 1975) and 635 episodes. The longest running primetime comedy (that is to say, animated comedy) is the series less likely than Brett Favre to retire, Matt Groening's 'The Simpsons.' Homer, Marge and the gang will hit their 20-year anniversary in December, 2009.
Despite the perceived popularity and general affection for sitcoms with a human cast, their life expectancy has not exceeded 15 years. Apparently comedies that used a known headliner as the program's star (and the show's name) lead to a certain degree of long-lived appeal. Maybe these were the forerunners to today's rush of reality-TV programming? 'The Jack Benny Show' (starring, yes, Jack Benny) ran for 15 years, from 1950 through 1965. 'The Lucy Show', featuring Lucille Ball-Arnez, made it through 12 seasons, from 1962 - 1974. Andy Williams, Carol Burnett and Danny Thomas all had very respectable runs with 11 seasons apiece.
Like their predecessor, 'The Simpsons', animated comedies 'King of the Hill' and 'South Park' have surpassed most human competition thus far (these shows have each run for just over 13 years), though modern-era sitcoms 'Frasier', 'Cheers', 'Married With Children' and 'Mash' all enjoyed impressive 11 year runs.
While drama and competition are proven to hold the public attention longer than laughs, one thing that remains consistent is the American appetite for televised entertainment.

The Movie Review of Angels and Demons
The Movie Review of Angels and Demons (2009)
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Prateek_Dave]Prateek Dave
The movie adaptation of Dan Brown's most successful novel till date, 'The Da Vinci Code', was a massive commercial hit in 2006. Most of the critics had rejected the film but the viewers loved it. The success of this movie prompted the producers to come out with a sequel (in reality a prequel) starring Tom Hanks as Prof. Robert Langdon yet again. The film adaptation of Dan Brown's 'Angels and Demons' was directed by Ron Howard and released in the summers of 2009.
Angels and Demons doesn't features in the same league as The Da Vinci Code. In fact the stupendous success of latter had led the 1st three novels of Brown hitting best seller's list. So, the film adaptation of Angels and Demons was never expected to match the hype and money generated by its predecessor. Definitely Ron Howard didn't have any sort of pressure on him to deliver. He could have used this opportunity to create a film that could satiate the critics, viewers and the fans of Brown alike. But he misses out by miles. The film didn't get much favorable reviews from critics but the worst of all the director disappointed the fans of this second best novel by Dan Brown completely.
The biggest drawback of this film is that it deviates a lot from the original novel in terms of plots and characters. The character of the director of CERN has been left out while the character of Hassasin has been replaced by Mr. Gray, a white male. Unlike novel Prof. Langdon visits Vatican directly without visiting CERN. There are a no. of other vital changes in the plot and the events which are quite painful for an avid fan of the novel to watch.
The film fails to create memorable characters too. The character of Camerlengo has been messed up completely. In the novel his character is quite complicated and very deftly written. In the film he is a mere shadow of the character depicted in the novel. Mr. Gray is a big big disappointment. It is difficult to understand why the character of Hassasin was replaced with this one.
But still the film is not bad. For the people who love fast thrillers and have nothing to do with the novel or Dan Brown the film is a good time pass. The pace of the film is good and visually it is brilliant. Howard has kept the proceedings much simpler and so the film is comparatively easier to understand than its predecessor.

Steam Boy
Steam boy is like a typical summer blockbuster movie that is jam-packed with the action. The latest in a line of inventors is the Ray Steam who lives in England which is the main power source of steam. His grandfather has returned from the expedition in America where he with Ray's father invented a new kind of 'steam ball,' which is a small device which contains the highly pressurized steam. Steam boy is not as dark as the apocalyptic movie Akira. In fact it is like an exciting children's movie that has almost continual explosions with the debates on nature of science.
The Future of Anime
Anime continues to push the envelope in creative, groundbreaking, animation. While economic shifts, bootlegging, and other challenges, may change how anime is produced and distributed, and may involve a greater push towards lucrative spin-off products, including Anime computer games, anime collectors' items, anime's influence and following around the world is increasing. Anime is here to stay.
